Azamgarh is one of the three districts of Azamgarh division in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Its district headquarters is Azamgarh. This district was settled by Nawab Azam Shah, that is why it was named Azamgarh. On 15 November 1994, the "Azamgarh Circle" was created as the Fourteenth Circle. Azamgarh district has eight tehsils.
